From Monday, February 27th to Wednesday, March 1st Sofia is going to play host to the fifth regional meeting of the South-Eastern European Health Organization under the project ‘Improving
Supervision and Control over Contagious Diseases in South-Eastern Europe’.
The conference is going to start in Monday, February 27th at 9 o’clock in the Forum Hotel and will be attended by representatives of the eight member states of the South-Eastern European Health
Network, the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the Council of Europe, the Council of Europe Development Bank, France, Belgium and international aid
organizations. They will discuss the problem situation of the spreading of the bird flu in the region and the risk of the disease becoming pandemic. The member states of the Health
Organization, including Bulgaria, are going to present their plans for pandemic prevention and make estimation of the risk of the bird flu spreading over the countries in South-Eastern Europe, as
well as the pandemic danger. A thorough revision of systems for supervision and control will be made and the importance of syndrome supervision and systems for early alarming will be
discussed.
Experts with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control will lay stress on the importance of implementation of the European health
regulations.
